Google has finally decided to jump into the Microsoft dominated world of web browsers by launching their own browser. The new browser named
"Chrome" is due out in Beta version (PC only, Mac and Linux versions are still under development) sometime late Tuesday. Google says that the new browser "is streamlined and simple." in keeping with the design of the google search page. The browser will have some familiar features including tabs and an address bar with auto completion but it is also supposed to include such improvements as tabs that run independently so that an error in one tab will not shut down the entire browser (good stuff!). It is also supposed to be more secure and stable. To get a look at Chrome here are some
screenshots. It will be interesting to see what effect Chrome will have on the current internet landscape. Will it put a dent into the 70% market share that Microsoft IE currently has? How will it effect website development standards? SEO? This all remains to be seen. Google has not officially acknowledged the launch. It seems that copies of
a comic book by Scott McCloud outlining the features of the new browser were sent to some journalists and developers ... an interesting choice. Stay tuned...We are sure there is a lot more to come.
