It is important to remember that search engine pages are not like the Guiness Book of World Records. Staying on top is just as difficult as getting there.
You should think of search engines as being similar to the Billboard Pop Music top 100, and you should consider the algorithms that rank the pages as being similar to a twelve year old girl. Your average pre teen girl can probably tell you everything about Hannah Montana, from her favorite t.v. show to what kind of sweetener she likes on her corn flakes, but how do you think she will feel about her in eighteen months?
There are plenty of businesses that have gotten the rankings that they want in Google, and as soon as they get it they jettison every part of their business that has to do with the internet.
Big mistake.
Search Engine algorithms are tweaked constantly, and this is done so people don't take advantage of the system. SEO's are constantly keeping up with the changes, and the ethical ones are constantly coming up with ways to make gains within those parameters.
If you have made gains in the search engines and are seeing the inevitable results in contacts and clients, don't get complacent. Nothing is a bigger waste of money for a business than a website that sits idle.
